HONOLULU, Hawaii (AP) The Honolulu Public Library has reopened.
The city’s oldest library reopened after the fire, as did the city’s first public library in 1932.
It’s the latest major public library to reopen, though the public remains without Internet access.

There’s no internet access in Honolulu and the city has no central library, so it’s a challenge to connect to services like the library website and library apps.
We have no central location.
There are three public libraries, but the Honolulu Public Libraries is the largest.
That means we are able to do more than 200 library services at one time.
And it’s our job to do that.
The library also has the support of the city.
There is a large public safety department, but that is being expanded.
The mayor says the city is looking for a way to keep a library open longer.
The problem is that we have a very active city council, so we have to work through that.
I want to be clear, the city of Honolulu is a good library.
We are the largest in the country.
But the problem is we have an active city councils that we can’t get out of, so that is a real challenge for us.

There have been some changes to the library’s schedule.
Last year, Honolulu hosted its first international holiday and the first day of the summer.
The last library in Hawaii closed on June 20, 2018, and this year, there will be no holiday.

It also has a population of about 2 million.
The current mayor, who served for about three years, is Makiko Lassiter, a retired teacher.
Lassit says the library is a model for how cities can keep their libraries open longer and more reliably.
There was a time when I would come to the public library every day to pick up books.
Now I don’t even bring my books to the store.
There were times when I had to walk over and pick up things, but now that’s a different situation, she said.
She says she will not seek re-election.
HONOLU IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC IN ALL STATES.
The Honolulu Public Health Authority says there are no reported cases of influenza this year.
The Honolulu Star Advertiser reports that the Honolulu Library has been open since May 3.
The building that houses the library and the main branch, known as the Branch Bookstore, was partially destroyed in a fire on Sept. 17, 2018 that caused $25,000 in damage.
